Sygic have recently revealed they have sent a new update for approval before being added to the iPhone App Store. This update will be free to all current users and will cover all released versions.
The update will add
ability to choose addresses straight from iPhone contacts and navigate to them
smooth fading out of the music playback before the voice instructions
enhanced GPS lock
smoother position display when moving on the route
navigation automatically resumes after completion of phone call, without the need to tap the ‚Accept‘ button anymore
We will shortly have a review of the current UK/Irl regional release of Sygic Mobile Maps on the iPhone and will also be reporting on these updates when they are released. As soon as the Android version is released we will also have a review of this release.
Apple have today approved the UK & Ireland regional version of Mobile Maps for the iPhone into the app store. It costs £49.99, giving a £10 discount on the cost of the full European version. An added benefit is the lower capacity footprint, requiring approx 300MB space instead of the near 2GB space required for the European version.
Hot on the tail of the IPhone release of Sygic Mobile, Sygic plans to introduce a version for the Android platform. As a teaser they have released a clip of the application working on YouTube.
I hope to have more news on this soon, with details of pricing and availability
Sygic have now released a number of new versions of Mobile Maps for the iPhone, with more to come. The latest releases are Russia, Brazil, South East Asia, USA, United States & Canada & Mexico, Australia & New Zealand and Europe (East and West).
Also released for some locations are application updates from the originally released versions. Coming soon should also be an update adding integration with iPhone contact list (navigate to contact) and iPhone style listbox. When the update is available it will be provided as a free download from the iTunes/iPhone App Store, with the app desciption updated to reflect this.
Following the errors getting Sygic Mobile Europe working on the Iphone, the app has been re-released again, and this time it is possible to download it. Not having an Iphone I am not able to provide much information but some info I have found includes
no obvious way to add custom POI files - only adding individual POI in the app itself
7 digit postcodes work but may require a space to get 3 numbers into the postcode
the built in speed camera file is reasonable but is upto 6 months out of date and only covers fixed units not mobiles.
I am waiting for Sygic to provide a comparison between the different platforms and will publush that when available.
