New POI Convertor Batch File Uploaded Print E-mail
Written by Vince Marsters

We have uploaded a new POI Convertor batch file to the downloads section. This one is an improvement on the original batch files uploaded for converting PocketGPSWorld speed camera files as it converts all .txt files present in the folder. Like the batch files it requires the Sygic POI ConvertorSygic POI Convertor to also be present in the folder.

To use

  1. Copy the convert.bat file into the folder where the correctly formated .txt files are present.
  2. Copy the Sygic POI Convertor.exe file into the same folder.
  3. Run convert.bat.

We are grateful to Sonym (Sygic Rep) on Allaboutsymbian.comAllaboutsymbian.com for the base script used by this new file.

New Version of McGuider Assistant Print E-mail

TeleAtlas/Sygic have released a new version of the McGuider AssistantMcGuider Assistant. Gone are the maps and voice lists which didn't do anything anyway. There is also unfortunately no new update available for maps or application.

So far I have also noticed that this new version still doesn't work with devices connected using Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista and Windows 7 connected Windows Mobile Devices) so it will be necessary to use an application that provide a drive letter when connected to the computer (some new phones come with this built in or utilities like WM5torageWM5torage are also available).

Sygic 2009 released Print E-mail

PocketGPSWorld are reporting (herehere) that Sygic have released the latest 2009 version of Sygic Drive - the backend software behind McGuider. It appears to offer some useful additions to the existing software including built in support for the accelerometers found in most new phone models.

The one interesting development though is that although Sygic have a version of Drive working on Iphone, they have not announced a release date for this. This is most likely down to the current limitations imposed by Apple over turn-by-turn satellite navigation.

DVD Version Now Available Print E-mail

TeleAtlas have now released the long awaited DVD versionDVD version of McGuider, and for the bargin price of £39.00 (compared to the £59.99 price for McGuider on a 4GB Micro SD Card). This allows the software to be installed and activated on one device, which is ideal for those with phones without the ability to use SDHC cards, or those who already own a larger SD card.

Update as it appears the TeleAtlas website is currently not working properly and it is impossible to add the DVD version to a shopping basket.

McGuider for Iphone? Print E-mail

Sygic Iphone Teaser

Is McGuider about to released on the Iphone3G? It is certainly a possibility after Sygic dropped a hint in a promotional webpage for this weeks Mobile World Congress in Spain. Since McGuider is in reality Sygic Drive Mobile then a crossover to the retail McGuider release would make sense.

The biggest issue for a release though would appear to be Apple and their current stance that turn by turn navigation is not allowed, and therefore the ability to distribute through the appstore is not a possibility. It would take a brave company (Sygic or TeleAtlas) to release the program for use on jailbroken phones.

For users of Iphones, they can only hope Apple see sense and change the rules.
