McGuider is officially no more, having been withdrawn from the TeleAtlas portfolio officially from 13th November 2009. A short statement on the offical McGuider websitewebsite reads

Dear McGuider user and friend,

We would like to inform you that, with effect from 13 November 2009, McGuider products will no longer be part of the Tele Atlas portfolio. For future reference, we would like to recommend Sygic mobile maps, which is very similar in functionality and pricing to McGuider 2009. The latest version of mobile maps can be ordered from our online shopordered from our online shop.

This news does not really come as a surprise given TeleAtlas has not offically sold McGuider for much of the past year. In fact it was something of a surprise when new stock arrived on the TeleAtlas website a couple of months ago.

As the TeleAtlas statement says, Sygic Mobile Maps 9 offer very similar functionality - hardly surprising since McGuider was just a rebranded version of Sygic Drive (the name given to Mobile Maps in previous years).

Hi dogsofwar Welcome to the site and thanks for the info and offers of assistance to N95 users. Could I ask what version of the software you are using (the info is on the about page) and also if you would be willing to write a short review of the program as you see it. I do not have a Symbian based system so my info is all based on what I read etc. Something first hand would be much better. Vince

I love this site and the software, just installed it onto my N95 8gb and it works a treat, better then the nokia maps and it kicks the ass out of Garmin by far. I noticed a lot of people having trouble installing it on the N95 8gb, it is very easy the secret is to install it onto the "mass memory" and not the "phone memory" as some of the guides indicate on some of the sites I viewed. If anyone wants a guide to install onto a N95 8gb drop me a line and I will try to help you...

Topic : Possible Compatibility Issues With Kaspersky Mobile Security

I believe I have found a compatibility problem between McGuider (Drive 7.71) and Kaspersky Mobile Security 2009. Whenever I am playing MP3s from the SD card in the background and try to open McGuider when KMS is installed, I get a program crash in [MAIN]. Removing KMS allows everything to run correctly. Has anyone else run a mobile AV/Secuity suite on their Windows Mobile device without issue?

The latest releases are Russia, Brazil, South East Asia, USA, United States & Canada & Mexico, Australia & New Zealand and Europe (East and West). Topic : Sygic Mobile Europe Iphone App Now Available

Following the errors getting Sygic Mobile Europe working on the Iphone, the app has been re-released again, and this time it is possible to download it. Not having an Iphone I am not able to provide much information but some info I have found includes

no obvious way to add custom POI files - only adding individual POI in the app itself
7 digit postcodes work but may require a space to get 3 numbers into the postcode
the built in speed camera file is reasonable but is upto 6 months out of date and only covers fixed units not mobiles
I am waiting for Sygic to provide a comparison between the different platforms and will publush that when available.

Topic : Sygic Iphone Availability

As anyone from Europe will know, Sygic have pulled the European version of Sygic Mobile from the Iphone App Store as everyone who purchased it was getting error 8003. They hope to have the problem fixed reasonably soon but timing is dependant on Apple fixing the problem. Still available though are the versions for Australia/New Zealand and South East Asia. Sygic are also hopeful of Apple confirming the release for North America shortly too. We will post more info when we have it regarding availability in Europe and North America.

No problem but hopefully you will get there at some point :P Any review is fine, but could you also include the program version info etc as well please. As I said above I only have a WM phone so have no idea what issues are still there with the Symbian one. If you have never updated it to 7.71 with McGuider Assistant, then you will find quite a few bugs fixed in the update.

Unfortunately, after all that, I didn't get time to make that last point on my itinerary o.O In my defense, I did do 320 miles on my motorbike that day!! That last one would have added another 100 miles or so - too much for me... I'm going to put a brief review somewhere else on this forum because there are quite a few issues with McGuider, I'm afraid...

Good luck and be interested to hear how it goes. It will be either that or the thoughts I had in my post above yours about the seconds being expressed purely as a decimal of the minutes. Either way there is not a huge difference in location between them.

Ahh, I think the large seconds number means there is an implied decimal point ie. '88.76' and not '8876' - if I put that into my converter as the seconds, I think I've got the right place (not enough detail on McGuider map to be sure and this point is in the middle of a field!). But looks good now - many thanks for all your help...I'll see if I find it tomorrow...^_^

I think I have worked out what that means... 51:10.8876N 2:15.1048W Its 51 degrees 10.8876 minutes so roughly 10 minutes 53 seconds and 2 degrees 15.1048 minutes which is roughly 15 minutes 6 seconds. Using my new theory gives a decimal 2.25166W 51.18138N

If I enter it as 2deg15'10"W and 51deg10'88"N then it comes out as near Longleat and as 2.25266W 51.19105N in decimal. I think the huge seconds value could be screwing up the calculations.

Spooky, I just got that same answer (finally found a converter on the OS website). However, it shouldn't be in Bolton 8) - should be down in Wiltshire!! I've got McGuider calculating the route now (it's part of a bigger itinerary) and it is taking ages, so maybe I have got it wrong somehow...

Is that somewhere near Belmont Road, Bolton? You can enter in Degrees, minutes and seconds if you want on WM. I entered it as 2deg15'1048"W long and 51deg10'8876"N. Not sure how to display the degrees symbol in there but it is next to the ' on the bottom row of the keyboard for me. Anyhow is works out as 2.54111W 53.63222N I think.

Thanks for the quick response - I found that 'manual' which was proving hopeless until I saw a screenshot which suggests it uses the decimal format for coordinates. Problem is I've never understood coordinates and I'm trying to enter the following location: 51:10.8876N 2:15.1048W This is off an Ordnance Survey website - any idea how to convert this to decimal format? I found an online converter and I assumed the above was degrees/mins/secs but it can't be as each section needs to be less than 60....

Sorry for not repling sooner Roy - had some major server issues the last couple of days..... Sygic have had email problems too I gather from one of the messages I got earlier - and the fact I have suddenly been getting answers to questions I asked back in March (and they answered then too looking at the email headers). It might be worth giving them a prod again. The last support email I sent was answered by Milas in 2 days. Vince
